Material Options

Pick the timber that fits your life

Spotted Gum

Native Australian hardwood, naturally resistant to termites and decay, with excellent load-bearing density and distinctive grain patterns. Bleeds less tannin than Merbau — won't stain pool surrounds or pavers as easily. A smart choice for homes in Bushfire Prone Areas too, since its fire-resistance rating can satisfy AS 3959 compliance requirements.

Merbau

Durable and handles Victorian sun well — one of the most popular hardwood choices in South-East Melbourne for good reason. Worth knowing: Merbau is known for tannin bleed during the first few rains if boards aren't sealed early. Seal them promptly after installation or you'll spend a season chasing rust-coloured stains on pavers and pool coping.

Composite

Engineered with a protective polymer cap, composite is essentially immune to the rot and mould that can plague timber during Melbourne's damp winters. No staining or sanding required. One honest trade-off: composite boards run noticeably hotter underfoot during summer heatwaves compared to natural timber — worth considering if you have young kids or dogs who use the deck barefoot.

Why It Matters

A deck that still looks right in year ten

Built properly from the substructure up, so the parts you can't see hold the parts you can.

Built for Melbourne's climate

Materials and fixings chosen for wet winters and hot, dry summers — no cupping surprises. For homes in a Bushfire Prone Area, choosing fire-resistant timber like Spotted Gum can also be a compliance requirement under AS 3959, not just a preference.

Low-maintenance finishes

Options that shrug off weekends of upkeep, from oiled hardwood to no-fuss composite.

Adds value to your home

Usable outdoor living space is one of the most visible upgrades a buyer notices — and one of the last they forget when comparing properties.

Custom sizing & shapes

Wraparounds, split levels, curves and steps — designed to your block, not a kit.

Decking questions, answered

A straightforward deck is usually 1–2 weeks on-site once materials are in and any permit is approved. The bigger variable is the design and permit lead time before we start — that can add a few weeks depending on your council's turnaround.
